70 years strong!
First Credit Union (FCU) is proudly celebrating its 70th anniversary, marking seven decades of providing simple, affordable banking products and services to its 60,000 members and local communities.
Since starting as St Mary’s Credit Union in Hamilton on 10th July 1955, the credit union has remained committed to the philosophy of ‘People helping people’.
FCU is a member owned financial cooperative, that helps everyday kiwis achieve their financial goals within their means. FCU’s members benefit from a range of savings accounts tailored to meet their members savings goals- no matter how big or small.
FCU Chief Executive Simon Scott notes “A lot has changed in our 70 years; however, the one thing that has remained is our Board, Management and Staff’s commitment to our members. Without our members we wouldn’t be where we are today.”
“As we celebrate this significant milestone, we remain focused on enhancing the financial wellbeing of our members and we are continuously adapting to the ever-changing financial landscape.”
Recently, FCU, in partnership with Authsignal was the first banking provider in New Zealand to roll out passkeys as part of their Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) to protect member accounts- a huge achievement for this credit union with humble beginnings.
To celebrate, in June and July FCU will be donating a total of $70,000 to local foodbanks and charities and staff from across the organisation have been busy out and about in their local communities volunteering.
Simon is pleased to see how excited the staff are to support local, “What better way to celebrate our anniversary than by giving back. Our teams have really embraced this initiative to help make a difference in their local communities.”
