Who we are

We have been helping local people with their finances for over 50 years.

We started life back in 1955 as St Mary’s Credit Union, a credit union for Catholic families in Hamilton.  In 1992, we opened our doors to the people of Hamilton and the greater Waikato area, and in 2007, expanded to include the Bay of Plenty. We changed our name to reflect our new vision - to be the first in service, and to be the first choice in the market for personal loans and investments.

What we do

We’ve grown, but never forgotten our purpose – affordable, accessible banking for local families.  We offer savings accounts, personal loans, home loans, investments, insurances, 24/7 banking services and eftpos facilities.

We don’t handle business accounts, international banking, or sell high interest credit cards.  But if you’re after reliable, local-based, personal banking for you and your family, low fees and very competitive rates, you’re in the right place!

What we're about

First Credit Union is a NOT-FOR-PROFIT organisation.  This means that after providing for financial reserves and operating expenses, all our income is returned to our members through low-cost personal loans, better interest rates and lower fees.
